A birthday just wouldn't be complete with a trip to Hickory Park in Ames. Not only do they have great food, its affordable AND you get a free sundae and them singing to you!! The highlight for every 6 year old!! I'm thinking he enjoyed his ice cream a little too much (What you can't see is what his shirt and pants look like )
The weekend following his birthday, some friends were camping about an hour away, and we decided to join them for the day. It was the 1st time we had all been to a camp ground, and I had considered tent camping for the night, but it was so hot and humid (100+) that sleeping in a tent just wasn't all that appealing!! And I'm glad we didn't.. as some storms went thru the campgrounds that night, that one of our friends said was the worst storm they have ever camped thru! Would have been a soggy, crabby night in a tent!!!!
The kids had a great time.. and I know we will be getting out even more next summer, as they get a little older and easier to take places like this!!! Who knows, maybe we will actually get our tent out this year before the snow flies
We ended up having a birthday party at my parents pond for family. It seems to be centrally located and easier to have it outside there than it is here in Boone. Mason even got to see his cousin Karli (who is about 4 months older). They did have a good time fishing, flying kites, and just playing!! Mason always enjoys having other kids around when at the farm
This year he decided he wanted his theme to be 'Magic School Bus'. For those with kids of any age, if you have never heard of them, check out some DVD's and books at your library and your kids will be hooked. It is one of those shows that even I don't mind watching. Educational and fun. BUT finding Magic School Bus figurines is next to impossible, since it is a show that has been around for quite a few years. So my computer printer will have to do
Lots of black frosting on that cake :(
Mason got a lot of fun gifts... this nerf dart board....
CARS lunch box, and plastic containers for the lunch box, along with educational workbooks...
And this really cool LEGO Toy Story 'Buzz' that he just had to do NOW! Needless to say, we got it together, he played with it, and in a couple hours, it was in pieces as sister got ahold of it!! It now resides in a Ziplock bag waiting for another day to put it together.
He also got a gift card from Bass Pro shops (he thinks he needs some new fishing lures), marbles, a pitchback net in which he can throw a baseball, soccer ball, any ball and it will bounce back to him, and Money for his piggy bank. He loves to put his money in his bank.. hmm.. wondering who he got the 'save' gene from ??!! :-)
This is sisters new favorite thing to ride on. Any time Granny gets on it, she is right there wanting a ride too!!! Won't be long and she will be fighting brother I'm sure for his 4 wheeler
