Quilt

Back in March of 2006, I had a 'big' birthday. That year I was in a birthday Fat Quarter swap on the HGTV quilting message boards. I thought it would be fun to collect 30's prints and make a quilt for my 'big' birthday with them. So I found the perfect pattern, Turning Twenty, which i quickly renamed 'Turning Thirty'. The turning 20 pattern calls for 20 FQs, so i changed it to 30 FQs, in 30's fabrics, for my 'big' birthday..see a pattern here. Well at the rate I was going, it was gonna take me 30 years to get the darn thing finished! BUT along comes Hurricane Ike in the summer of 2008. Some very generous ladies on the HGTV quilting boards took donations that were to be sent to the IKE relief fund, in turn for having a quilt quilted. What better way to get me motivated to get those finishing touches on my quilt, donate money to a great cause, AND get this monster quilted, at a fraction of the cost mind you!!! This is what it looked like before I mailed it off.. notice I've got a great helper :)

This is the quilt on the Longarm machine.. THANKS Quiltaholic

AND here it is at its new home finished and being used! This is the first bed quilt I've ever made, and I can honestly say I'll never sleep under anything other than a homemade quilt. They are warm, yet not thick, and my kitties love it!!!! Didn't take Kramer long to make herself at home

Here is a close up of the quiltling.. she did an amazing job!!! I'd still have it sitting here as a UFO had I not had that extra little 'push'!!!

love those repo fabrics! and you are right nothing sleeps as good as having a homemade quilt on the bed!

Good for you for taking some extra time to make it large enough for your bed! You are smart! ;)
